INDIAN WELLS, NETRALNEWS - One of the biggest rivalries in the world of tennis will again be presented at Indian Wells on Saturday (03/16/2019), when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal compete in the BNP Paribas Open semifinals.

The two winners of the Grand Slam won a quarter-final match on Friday, although Nadal had to work hard to overcome Russian Karen Khachanov 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2).

Federer broke Polish service Hubert Hurkacz one each on each set to win 6-4, 6-4.

"This is a little different," the Swiss told reporters. "They reminded me they would put me at 11:00 (morning). What can I say? You have no choice," he was quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I am very happy to be in the semi-finals here, not that I don't expect it. I served comfortably, in a place that was mentally good when I entered my game service."

In the stronghold of the opponent, Hurkacz obtained two break points but unfortunately he was unable to win both.

"Roger played well in important moments," he said. "I had little chance in the second set."

"It changes direction all the time (with its service) so it's difficult to read it."

With Hurkacz's defeat, Federer turned his mind to a match that would be his 39th career match with Nadal.

Spaniard Nadal won 23-15 in the head-to-head record but Federer won the last five meetings.

They haven't met since the ATP Final in Shanghai in 2017, the same year Federer beat Nadal 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round before winning his fifth title at Indian Wells.
