Santiago Solari Set to Manage Real Madrid until 2021 (madrid)
MADRID, NNC -Spanish La Liga giant Real Madrid has given contract deal to Santiago Solari as first team coach until June 2021, the club announced in a statement on Tuesday (11/13).
The 42-year-old Argentine coach has led the team to four wins in four matches since taking over as caretaker manager replacing former Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked two weeks ago.
Solari enjoyed the best start from every coach in club history, and his appointment as permanent manager was approved by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Monday (11/12).
The Argentine had played for Real Madrid from 2000 to 2005 in the Galacticos era with Zinedine Zidane, who coached the club and won three Champions League titles in a row before then he resigned.
Solari led Real Madrid's reserve team since 2016 until he took over as coach from Lopetegui last month after the club's poor performance culminated in a defeat that hurt El Clasico 5-1 by Barcelona.
As reported by Antara on Wednesday (11/14), Solari managed to bring victory to Real Madrid against Melilla in the Copa del Rey, Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League plus Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo in La Liga.
Lopetegui was fired after Madrid sank to ninth in the domestic standings. However, after Sunday's 4-2 win at Celta, the club finished sixth, four points behind leaders Barcelona.
