BRUSSELS, NNCAnother name appeared on the target list of new manager for Real Madrid . After failing to acquire Antonio Conte, the Spanish La Liga giant is now shifting target to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.

Despite not having a good record of achievements while managing clubs in the English Premier League, Martinez's performance with Belgium in the 2018 World Cup attracted Real Madrid.

The news about Madrid's approach to Martinez then reached the local Belgian media and the Belgian Football Federation (RBFA).

Regarding the news, RBFA did not want to confirm further, and only asked anyone interested in Martinez to contact them first. This is also related to rumors of a clause in Martinez's new contract that allows him to negotiate with a giant club.

"If the club wants to sign Mr. Martinez, they must first reach an agreement with the federation," said the RBFA spokesman, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

"We do not want to comment on the contract agreed between the federation and its representatives because it is confidential."

Madrid is temporarily handled by Santiago Solari following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui a day after a 1-5 defeat at Barcelona in El Clasico.

Before targeting Martinez, Conte's name had appeared in the top position considering his good history with Juventus, the Italian national team, and Chelsea. Conte was even rumored to have met Madrid officials.

But, the agreement was called a failure because Conte asked for two conditions that might be difficult to meet with club officials related to the purchase of players. As a result, Madrid retreated slowly and looked for new targets.
