MADRID, NNC - Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino claimed he is comfortable with his plans to conquer Barcelona because he could never manage the Spanish giants. That was what Pochettino told the Spanish daily, Marca, Tuesday (10/2/2018).
Pochettino believes his past has prevented him from never coming to power at the Nou Camp, considering he was a player and manager at the city rivals Espanyol, but he is pleased with the prospect of beating Barca in a Champions League match at Wembley on Wednesday (10/3)
"(Facing Barca) motivates me, became an Espanyol fan and lived for years at Barcelona," he told the newspaper.
"This is more than understandable (that I will never take over) ... My path and Barcelona's path are different, the opposite direction. Training there is impossible," he said.
Tottenham lost their opening Group B match against Inter Milan and have to get back on track against Barcelona who played three games without a win in the Spanish League (La Liga).
"Winning the match is very good and when you win against Barcelona, the meaning is even better, because that will mean something important to us," Pochettino said.
"For me, (Lionel) Messi is still number one (player in the world) and will be so until he retires."
