Rift Between Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba Worsens (eveningstandard)
MANCHESTER, NNC – Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho's relationship with Paul Pogba has again deteriorated. Although Mourinho continued to argue the decline of the relationship, football observers called the talk nonsense. Jamie Redknapp even said that the rift between the two was very real.
Mourinho's decision to strip the vice captain's armband from Pogba was the cause of the deteriorating of the two Manchester United members.
Pogba made several comments believed to be a form of sarcasm on the manager. The first is about the role on the field. Then at the end of last week after the draw with Wolves, Pogba said that Manchester United should play an attacking style.
Mourinho and Pogba's disputes became clearer when the player was not played when Manchester United defeated Derby County on penalties in the English League Cup. At the same moment Mourinho stated that Pogba was no longer the second captain of MU.
That is what makes Redknapp sure if the problems between the two figures are clearly visible and have occurred.
"There is certainly a big crack (in Mourinho and Pogba's relationship)," he told Sky Sports.
"It was a severe blow when someone said he chose the vice captain and then took it off. You really don't need to talk about that."
"There is a big gap between the two men. I thought it would have been finished when Mourinho made him captain in a couple of games. I think that was the biggest decision. But, it turns out I didn't see a way to patch this problem."
"You can fire Jose Mourinho, but you can't kick Paul Pogba. So what will he do about him?"
"I've been in the locker room where the manager loses the trust of the players and there will be groups. Players will have their own gathering corners. That's what I see in the Manchester dressing room now. I can visualize it. Many people are not happy there , "explained Redknapp.
Redknapp did not fully agree with Pogba's attitude that commented on his team's strategy. But the strategy approach made by Mourinho to the MU squad is not in accordance with the club's basic print.
"He is one of the best managers of all time, see what he has won. But, does he fit on MU in his style? I don't think so. Today's managers must be friends to the players. You can't lose their confidence." Redknapp added.
