BUENOS AIRES, NNC - Lionel Messi decided to take a break from defending the Argentine national team. His failure at the 2018 World Cup yesterday triggered Messi's decision. Although only a break, Messi still has the opportunity to retire from the Tango team.
That's why, his name is not on the list of Argentine players being prepared for friendly matches against Guatemala and Colombia next month. But, seeing the great pressure that exists at the moment, Lionel Scaloni who became Argentina's interim coach is not sure if he would see Messi in the Albiceleste uniform.
"I have spoken with Messi and based on that, he has not entered the squad for the next two matches. Honestly, we are not talking about what can happen in the future," Scaloni said as quoted by FourFourTwo.
"We all know what it means to us. Our relationship is good and we are open to each other. He is not in this squad and we will see in the future. We still have a lot of games and we will see," continued Scaloni.
"Of course it's better for any coach in the world when Messi plays ... I'm certainly crazy if I keep him in Barcelona and don't call him to the national team," Scaloni concluded.
