CHIEVO, NNC – Juventus new star Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score in his Serie A debut match this season when Juve faced Chievo Verona.
Nevertheless, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri did not feel disappointed. Allegri even praised Cristiano Ronaldo's appearance. In a short time after joining, Ronaldo was considered to have adapted well with the team.
On an away game to Chievo headquarters at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi on Saturday (8/18/2018) local time, Juventus managed to win a narrow 3-2. Ronaldo, who was the striker and played full for 90 minutes, was unable to score.
Three of Bianconeri goals came from Sami Khedira, suicide goal of opposing player, and Federico Bernardechi.
Ronaldo actually did not play badly. He managed to make eight shots, four of which went towards the goal, more so than the other Juve players. But, none of them scored.
"Ronaldo is physically very good. Even though he only trained with us for seven days but he was able to work nicely. It was regrettable he could not make a goal," Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.
"In the end it depends on the characteristics of the players around him. Ronaldo made a few shots today, but Chievo’s goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino managed to save his team. There were also some good moves from the midfielders but did not produce what they wanted (goals). It's a movement that must be read from the back where the ball was given at the right time."
"Apart from that, the best thing is how Ronaldo easily blend into the team. He is very happy in the dressing room and has taken advantage of the opportunity he has," said Allegri.
