KAZAN, NNC - Javier Mascherano hopes Lionel Messi did not follow in his footsteps, retired from the Argentine national team. Albceleste had just been eliminated by France in the last 16 of the Russia's World Cup. They surrendered 3-4 at the Kazan Arena on Saturday (6/30/2018).
Messi was able to score two assists, but tragically no goals were created in his name. This means until now he has not been able to score goals in the knockout phase of the biggest football tournament.
Previously Messi had revealed that the results of Argentina in the 2018 World Cup will have a major impact on his decision to retire or not with the national team. Public becomes anxious waiting for the future assurance of the captain with the Tango team.
"I hope that Messi has the desire to remain with the national team and I hope everyone leaves him alone," Mascherano said, as quoted by espnfc.
"No one in international football feels the kind of pressure that Argentine players feel and I think we dealt with it pretty well."
"But now, Messi needs to remain calm. He should go on vacation with his family and he should keep playing football because the day that Messi decides not to play, we are all going to find out what a great player he really is," concluded he.
