LONDON, NNC – Yamaha Movistar team stared at the second series of MotoGP Racing with a lot of homework, mainly regarding the durability of tires. Tire resistance issues caused them their performance in Qatar on March 18. Rossi must start from eighth position, while Maverick Vinales starting from 15th place.
Modifications to save the tires impacted the balance and speed of the motor. "So we tried faster throughout the race. If the tire refuses, keep trying. If not, ciao," said Valentino Rossi as reported by Crash.
Despite appearing less than perfect in the qualifying phase, Rossi and Maverick Vinales were able to perform well during the race. Rossi finished the race in third, while Vinales finished sixth.
Rossi said the result was good because Yamaha managed to make a breakthrough during the warm up session to then help them perform solid in the race.
How about the next race in Argentina? Rossi said he is not confident he can form his best, given the conditions of different races and fierce competition with other riders.
"But we're also making great strides in warm ups. We improve traction when getting out of the corner and I think we also work great on electronic devices. You know, the good and the bad from one track to another, that's clear, motorcycles will be very important this year, so no one knows what's going on in Argentina," he said.
The next race will be held in Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit in Argentina on April 8.
