WASHINGTON, NNC - 23-time Grand Slam tennis champion Serena Williams will be playing for the first time after maternity break at next week's 2018 Abu Dhabi Open tournament.
The American will meet French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship tournament in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Serena, 36, missed nearly a year since she defended her Australian Open title in a state of pregnancy in January.
"I will return to the tennis field in Abu Dhabi for the first time after my daughter was born in September," Serena told the official tournament website.
The 10th edition of Mudabala tournament on 31 December to 2 January is the first tournament that is also open to women’s category.
"I am happy and honored to be part where the women's group for the first time competed in this tournament," said the former world number one player.
