MELBOURNE, NETRALNEWS.COM – The campaign of flamboyant Swiss tennis player Roger Federer at the 2017 Australian Open is in full swing. Federer progresses to third round after defeating his American opponent Noah Rubin in three sets.
Federer overcame Noah Rubin with score of 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday (1/18/2017).
The Switzerland international did not meet any significant difficulty since the first set. However, Federer had to push hard game per game in the third round to defeat Rubin—who was ranked 200th.
Federer fell behind 2-5, but was able to equal the score to 5-5. The match to get points became fiercer nearing the end of the game, which forced a tiebreak.
The former world number one tennis player was able to win the third set and proceed to the next round, where he will face Tomas Berdych.
Meanwhile, Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka—seeded at fourth in the Australian Open—has also progressed to the third round after defeating American opponent Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
The 31-year old tennis player will face either Viktor Troicki or Paolo Lorenzi in the next round. (*)
