Indonesian Student Missing in China Found Dead at Xietang River

BEIJING, NETRALNEWS.COM - An Indonesian student in China who went missing for five days was finally found to be in a lifeless condition. Information gathered by Antara from various sources in China on Thursday said that the student, named Richard from Medan, North Sumatra, had been missing since Thursday (4/4/2019).

News of the Indonesian student that went missing, who studied at a university in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, had spread on Wechat social media. Five days later, information circulated that the student was found dead around the Xietang River, Jiangsu.

The local police are still carrying out investigations to ascertain the cause of the death of the 22-year-old Indonesian student.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Student Association in China (PPIT) Fadlan Muzakki appealed to Indonesian citizens in China who were dominated by students to empathize with victims by not carelessly spreading information.

"I understand a lot of questions and curiosity of friends very high about what is happening to our friends. We appreciate the concern of friends. But please be wise in disseminating information that is not obtained directly from the source," he said via message short sent chain via Wechat.

He also asked not to disseminate news, photos and stories that were still mere assumptions.

"Let's wait for all investigations and examinations to be completed and let's wait for official information from all parties so that this information is not confusing and creates anxiety," he said.

The PPIT also stated that it was ready to assist the local police in uncovering the case by providing information about the victims' daily lives.

Previously there was a chain message in Wechat which stated that some of the victims' limbs were lost when found in lifeless conditions.

The message containing an appeal for caution written in English also said that in December 2018 a student from Russia was also a victim of kidnapping.
