ANKARA, NETRALNEWS -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that his country would defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque against Israeli attacks. Erdogan described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "tyrant, who slaughtered children", local media reported.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new public service program in Ankara, Erdogan said that Turkey would not remain silent about the dangers facing the Al-Aqsa Mosque even if the world did.

Turkey, he said, would defend his struggle for Jerusalem until the holy city was managed in a way that was in accordance with the Islamic world.

He also warned that his country would call for punishing Israel for aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in front of the international community.

Responding to Netanyahu's insults about insults against him and Turkey, Erdogan said: "Hi Netanyahu, behave well. You are a tyrant, you are a tyrant who slaughter seven-year-old Palestinian children."

"Listen, we have not oppressed Jews in this country. We have not done anything you have done for any synagogue here. Don't provoke us. We will not fall into this trap," he said as quoted by Middle East Monitor.

Erdogan's statement came after Netanyahu stressed that Israel was a nation-state of "Jews - Jews only."

According to the Times of Israel, Netanyahu replied and said: "Turkish dictator Erdogan attacked Israeli democracy while Turkish journalists and judges filled in the prisons. An amazing joke!"

Ignoring Israeli police attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinians in the occupied territories, Netanyahu added: "Erdogan must learn from us how to respect all religions and uphold human rights."
