SINGAPORE, NNC - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo conveyed three keys to face the global situation in his remarks at Working Lunch at the Suntec Convention Center, Singapore, Wednesday (11/14/2018).
The keys to dealing with the global situation are to increase economic cooperation and fair and free trade in this case, for example, the completion of RCEP which is very important; to strengthen monetary and fiscal cooperation, such as CMIM (Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization); and to improve domestic economic fundamentals to advance the principles of good governance.
"I hope ASEAN will be able to continue to strengthen synergies with APEC, G-7 and also the IMF," said President Jokowi as stated in the Presidential Secretariat's Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media, Bey Machmudin in Jakarta on Thursday (11/15/2018).
Starting his remarks, the President reminded that the presence of heads of state/heads of ASEAN governments at the 33rd ASEAN Summit is to strengthen commitment.
"We meet here to strengthen the commitment that the economy is open, multilateralism can continue. We must be able to prove that trade is not a zero sum game. Open economy and trade can produce win-win results," said President Jokowi.
Therefore, to realize this, the President explained that there was no other way, except by strengthening synergy cooperation.
"I repeat cooperation and synergy. I convey this message clearly at the opening of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Bali in October 2018," said he again.
He continued, in Bali, at the same time ASEAN also strengthened its commitment and was ready to cooperate with the IMF-World Bank in achieving the SDGs.
The working lunch was attended by the head of states/head of the ASEAN government and also attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
