CRT, a New Hope for Heart Failure Patients

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Multipoint Pacing Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Pacemaker (CRT), an innovation in medical science, especially in the fields of the heart and blood vessels, brings good news and becomes a new hope for heart failure patients. CRT is a therapy for congestive heart failure (CHF) caused by a weakening of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy).

Through this technology it is expected that the quality of life of CHF patients with symptoms of shortness of breath, swelling of legs and fatigue, exercise intolerance, reduced appetite and depression, can be improved.

As stated by Dr. Sunu Budhi Raharjo, PhD, SpJP (K) during a press conference the Pacemaker Innovation Increased the Quality of Life for Cardiac Resynchronization Patients with Heart Failure-Multipoint Pacing Theraphy Pacemaker, New Hope for Heart Failure Patients at Columbia Asia Hospital in Jakarta, Tuesday ( 2/4/2019).

Dr. Sunu explained, in principle, the management of heart failure is done to improve quality of life (improve Quality of life) and prolong life (improve survival). Management of heart failure is done by treatment, but in certain cases only with treatment alone can not provide improvement in the patient's life expectancy. When the drug cannot provide the principle, another treatment is carried out, namely CRT.

"Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, which is a small device that is installed to restore the motion of the heart walls to be more synchronous. "CRT is a recommended tool for symptomatic advanced heart failure, which has obtained optimal pharmacological heart failure therapy," said Dr. Sunu.

Sunu explained, the latest innovation from the current CRT is MultiPoint ™ Pacing Technology is a defibrillator feature contained in Quadra Assura MP Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator (CRT-D) and Quadra Allure MP CRT-pacemaker (CRT-P).

MultiPoint ™ Pacing technology is designed to send multiple electrical pulses to the left ventricular (LV) using 4 electrodes and 10 pacing vectors that can help produce a normal heart rate.

Advantages of CRT with MultiPoint ™ Technology This pacing can provide potential benefits for patients who do not respond to traditional bi-ventricular (Biv) therapy and can provide additional benefits for patients who respond to traditional Biv therapy.

The security and success of MultiPoint ™ Pacing has been approved by the FDA with a safety level of 93.2 percent free of system-related complications and proven not inferior to BiV quadripolar with respect to the level of non-responders.

According to data from International Clinical Experience, MultiPoint ™ Pacing can improve hemodynamic heart function and reverse remodeling. Several studies have shown an increase in patient response to CRT with MultiPoint Pacing compared to one pacing.

To note, heart failure can be caused by many things. Broadly speaking, the most common causes of heart failure are 60-75 percent coronary heart disease with several causes namely hypertension 75 percent, 10 percent valve disease, cardiomyopathy and other causes 10 percent.

Data said, 87 percent of the data on coronary heart disease patients who died suddenly in Indonesia suffered from arrhythmia. This means that if it is not recognized and handled properly Arrhythmia is very dangerous for the population of Indonesia.
