Jakarta Gov’t Uses Remaining Semanggi Interchange Construction Funds to Repair Sidewalks

Saefullah, Regional Secretary of Jakarta

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Jakarta government is intensively repairing a number of sidewalks, in line with the Sidewalk Awareness Month program on August, 2017.

At least 150 pavement points will be renovated to be pilot sidewalk projects. The renovation involves making ducting so that no more utility cable excavation causes damage to sidewalks.

Saefullah, Regional Secretary of Jakarta, said funds used for the repair and construction of the sidewalks will be sourced from the remaining budget of the Semanggi Interchange (Simpang Susun Semanggi/SSS) development project.

"There are remaining funds of IDR219 billion from the SSS project. The remaining funds will be used to repair and renovate sidewalk to become pedestrian-friendly sidewalks,” Saefullah said on Tuesday (8/1/2017).

Saefullah added that the pilot project sidewalks will be built starting from Monas, Patung Kuda, to Senayan area.

As previously reported, the Semanggi Interchange project had cost IDR360 billion, much smaller than the initial planned budget of IDR579 billion. The Jakarta government has saved up to IDR219 billion from the project.
