CANCUN, NETRALNEWS.COM – Indonesia as a disaster laboratory attracted international attention, thus opening cooperation offers from various countries. All potential natural disasters owned by Indonesia that not necessarily other countries have, among others earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, landslides, drought, forest and land fires and volcanoes.
Indonesia participated in the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) international forum in Cancun, Mexico, May 22-26, 2017. The Indonesian delegation is headed by the Head of National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) representing the president, consisting of a number of related ministries/institutions, parliaments, academics, NGOs, national private sector and Indonesian Embassy of Mexico City.
Head of BNPB Willem Rampangilei said that this forum provides an opportunity not only for the Government of Indonesia but the whole country to share its superiority and gain knowledge and best expertise of other countries in disaster risk management.
"Indonesia is no longer a recipient of disaster relief assistance, but it also offers cooperation assistance in both prevention and disaster management," Willem said in a release received by Netralnews.com on Friday (05/26/2017).
The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) cooperation offers were delivered on various occasions of bilateral meetings amid the ongoing GPDRR. Among others, Head of BNPB with Mr. Kiren Rijuju, Union Minister for Home Affairs of India, discussed Indonesia-India cooperation in formulating education/academic programs and utilization of information technology of disaster risk reduction.
