Polri to Take Firm Action on Distribution of Hoax News

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia National Police (POLRI) have asserted that they would take firm action against anyone who made or spread false information, news, or hoax.

Head of the Indonesian Police Public Relations Inspector General M Iqbal said whoever makes or speads hoax  would be processed in accordance with applicable law.

"Do not disturb the public with false news, especially when it is post-voting. We have carried out an investigation and we will pursue whoever the perpetrators are, "said Inspector General M Iqbal on Friday (4/19/2019).

Iqbal further stated that this decisive action was taken so that there would be no issues in the virtual world that would have an impact on the real world.

"Hoax news can have implications in the real world and cause discontent in the community," he said

After a quick count, provocative and hoax narratives are detected up to 40 percent.

The spread of the hoax is on youtube, IG, and whastapp groups.

Regarding the matter, POLRI have asked the public to be wise and do not directly believe the content distributed on social media, especially by an anonymous account that cannot be clarified and confirmed.
