YOGYAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Mount Merapi on the border of Yogyakarta and Central Java has experienced four earthquakes during the six observation hours starting at 00.00 WIB until 06.00 WIB on Wednesday according to the Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG).

Head of BPPTKG Hanik Humaida said on Wednesday (10/42019) that four tremors during this period had a amplitude of 2-9 mm with a duration of 11-49 seconds.

In addition to earthquake tremor, BPPTKG also recorded one earthquake with a 6 mm amplitude that lasted 11 seconds.

Visual observations showed that the weak pressure of Merapi crater smoke was observed to be white with thin to moderate intensity and 20 meters high above the crater peak.

The wind on the mountain blew weakly towards the east, south and southwest. The air temperature is 15-21 degrees Celsius and the air humidity is 66-85 percent and air pressure is 627.7-708.7 mmHg.

During the six-hour observation period, BPPTKG also did not observe any lava avalanches.

Until now BPPTKG maintained the status of Mount Merapi at Level II or Alert and for the time being did not recommend climbing activities except for the purposes of investigation and research related to disaster mitigation.

BPPTKG urged residents not to carry out activities within a three kilometer radius from the summit of Mount Merapi.

Regarding the distance of the hot clouds from Merapi, the BPPTKG has urged residents who live in the Kali Gendol channel to increase their awareness.

The community was also asked not to be provoked by issues regarding the eruption of Mount Merapi, whose sources were unclear and still followed the directions of the local government officials or asked directly to the Observation Post of Mount Merapi or the BPPTKG office, or monitored BPPTKG social media.
