Pilot Association Appreciates Grounding of Boeing 737 Max Aircraft (antara)

PANGKALPINANG, NNC - The Indonesian Pilots Association (IPI) has appreciated the regulator's steps, in this case the Ministry of Transportation, in grounding the flights of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft following the policies of the European Union and United States aviation authorities which freeze the operation of these aircraft types.

"IPI would like to express its appreciation to the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation for its steps and quick response in issuing instructions to stop the temporary operation of the entire Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet in Indonesia," said IPI Chair Captain Iwan Setyawan in a written statement in Pangkal Pinang, Islands Bangka Belitung, Friday (03/15/2019).

This step was considered as an anticipatory action in completing the inspection process of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet to ensure safety management policies and follow-up operations of the Boeing 737-800 MAX 8 fleet in Indonesia in the future.

"We believe the synergy of all stakeholders, both operators, regulators and other facilitators is an important key in ensuring the commitment of all parties to safeguard the quality of national aviation safety standards better," said Iwan.

He also appealed to the public to avoid speculation about what happened to the operation of the fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 and wait for further results of investigations of relevant institutions involved in the Ethiopian Accident Investigation Agency in completing its findings and issuing guidelines and consequential recommendations, especially matters relating to operations Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet.

Reported by Antara, IPI expressed its deepest condolences to the families of passengers and crew affected by the accident from the Ethiopian Airlines ET302 flight which was operated by a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 (ET-AVJ) which fell shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa International Airport Bole which killed all the crew and passengers.
