JAKARTA, NNC - The Indonesia Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has uncovered illegal cosmetics and cosmetics containing dangerous ingredients worth IDR112 billion.
Penny Lukito, Head of BPOM, said the cosmetic findings were dominated by cosmetic products containing mercury, hydroquinone and retinoic acid. BPOM also found six types of cosmetics that contain dangerous ingredients.
"These cosmetics use prohibited dyes such as K3 red and heavy metals or lead. In general, these ingredients are carcinogenic or can cause cancer, fetal abnormalities and skin irritation," Penny said in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/14).
Penny explained, all cosmetic findings containing dangerous chemicals had been followed up administratively. Among them are cancellation of notification or marketing permit, withdrawal and security of products from circulation, and destruction. For cosmetic products and illegal OT, a pro-justitia process is carried out.
BPOM claims to have uncovered 45 cosmetic cases without marketing authorization and/or containing dangerous substances.
"The whole case has been followed up on a pro-justitia basis. In the past five years, the highest verdict on cosmetic court cases has been sanctioned in the form of a court decision of a maximum of 2 years and 6 months in jail and a fine of IDR1 billion," Penny explained.
