JAKARTA, NNC - Lately it is known there has been abuse of sanitary napkins among teenagers. They drink boiled water from sanitary napkins to get drunk just like they consume drugs.
Deputy of Eradication at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Inspector General Arman Depari said the phenomenon was first revealed by the Central Java Province National Narcotics Agency. But after tracing, the abuse of boiled water from sanitary napkins also occurred in Jakarta and West Java.
"In West Java and around Jakarta we also find that there are young people who use boiled sanitary napkins, then drink the water as a substitute for drugs," Arman said at the BNN Office, Cawang, East Jakarta, Thursday (11/8/2018).
BNN found teenagers who use sanitary napkins boiled water in the Karawang, Bekasi, and East Jakarta regions. The majority of users are mid teens. The sanitary napkins are believed to contain psychoactive ingredients in it.
"According to them, the sanitary napkin contains psychoactive ingredients maybe as preservatives or other ingredients. But of course there is still a need for deepening and laboratory examination," said Arman.
The National Narcotics Agency will also examine the prevention of abuse of the sanitary napkins. It is because the item falls into the legal and easily obtainable category in the market.
