Luhut and Sri Mulyani Reported for Alleged Violation of Covert Campaign

JAKARTA, NNC -- Private institution in the field of law that calls itself Archipelago Advocacy (Advokasi Nusantara) reported the alleged violation of covert campaign committed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.

The Advokasi Nusantara reported the alleged covert campaign to the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

Through M. Taufiqurrahman as the complainant's attorney, a civilian named Dahlan Pido said the alleged covert campaign by Luhut and Sri Mulyani could violate Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections as stipulated in Article 282 in conjunction with Article 2B3 paragraph (1) and (2) in conjunction with Article 457.

"Therefore, the complainant complained Luhut & Sri Mulyani, who are State Officials who at the time of the event [the closing of the IMF-WB annual meeting], allegedly had taken advantage of the situation to benefit and address alignments with Candidate Pair 01, Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin," said Taufiqurrahman, Thursday (10/18/2018).

To be known in advance, Luhut and Sri Mulyani corrected a two-finger pose of IMF Managing Director Chistine Lagarde at the close of the 2018 IMF-World Bank annual meetings.

The two Ministers correcting the IMF Managing Director's two-finger pose, according to Taufiqurrahman, should be suspected as a campaign violation because it is deemed partisanship and benefits the candidate pair number 1.

Thus, if there is an actual election violation, the two Ministers will be subject to criminal penalties and monetary penalties as stipulated in the General Election Law.

"Regulated in Article 282 in conjunction with Article 283 paragraph (1) and (2) in conjunction with Article 457, with the threat of three years imprisonment and a fine of IDR36 million," he explained.

From the evidence brought by the complainants, there are written texts and videos depicting, according to Taufiqurrahman, Minister Luhut and Minister Sri Mulyani were seen directing the IMF Director not to pose two fingers on a photo session.

"Sri Mulyani said,'Don't use two, say not two, not two' and Luhut's expression to the IMF Director 'No no no, not two, not two', and Minister Sri Mulyani was heard stressing to the director of the IMF stating 'Two is for Prabowo, and one is Jokowi'," explained Taufiq.
