President Jokowi Officially Opens Bali Cultural Carnival in Nusa Dua

NUSA DUA, NNC - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially opened the Bali Cultural Carnival in the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) area, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday (10/12/2018).

In a press statement received from the Deputy for Protocols, Press and Media, the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin explained that the Carnival was held in order to enliven the 2018 IMF-World Bank Group annual meetings.

Accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, both of them were wearing traditional Balinese clothing arrived at around 4.50 pm Central Indonesian Time (WITA). The arrival of the President and Mrs. Iriana was welcomed directly by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan and Mrs. Devi Luhut Binsar Panjaitan and also the Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster and Mrs. Ni Putu Putri Suastini.

The President and Mrs. Iriana then went straight to the stage of honor to officially open a carnival which had the theme "The Life and Economy of Bali". The opening of the carnival was marked by playing 'Okokan' a traditional Balinese musical instrument by President Jokowi accompanied with the Bali Governor I Wayan Koster and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.

In his remarks, I Wayan Koster stated that the theme raised in the Balinese Cultural Carnival had the meaning of the ritual life cycle of the Hindu community in Bali starting from birth to death.

"In interpreting and participating in enlivening the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meeting 2018, a cultural carnival is shown by displaying a variety of diversity, grandeur and majesty of Balinese culture and packaged in colossal performance art works that are innovative, attractive and dynamic," said I Wayan Koster.

The President's presence at the carnival this time also received appreciation from various parties. One of them was Dewa Putu Beratha, Head of the Bali Provincial Culture Office who also acted as the Chairperson of the Bali Cultural Carnival organizing committee this time.

"The presence of the President is something extraordinary because it will motivate Balinese people, especially artists, to continue to maintain, preserve and develop Balinese culture," said Dewa Putu Beratha.

Also accompanying the President and Mrs. Iriana in this activity were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya, Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Special Staff to President Johan Budi, and Special Staff to the President Ari Dwipayana.
