Riau Police Confiscate IDR230 Billion worth of Meth in January-August 2018

Riau Police Chief Inspector General Nandang

PEKANBARU, NNC - Riau Regional Police stated that 232.46 kilograms of methamphetamine (meth) worth over IDR230 billion were confiscated throughout January to early August 2018.

"This condition is quite worrying because there was a fourfold increase compared to the same period last year," said Riau Police Chief Inspector General Nandang, in Pekanbaru, Sunday (08/05/2018).

In addition to crystal meth, Nandang also said that more than 130,869 ecstasy pills were confiscated by the Riau Police and the ranks throughout 2018.

In the same period 2017, he said, Riau Regional Police and the ranks only seized 55.34 kilograms of meth from massive operations held throughout the province.

In fact, the disclosure figures for eight months in 2018 are also not comparable to the disclosures throughout the past one year, which is only as much as 116 kilograms of meth.

Nandang said that the rampant drug trafficking cannot be separated from so many illegal ports scattered along the coastline of Riau Province. The number of personnel and equipment is not sufficient enough to guard the area.

In addition, he also assessed the presence of drug couriers who received small amount of payment, while the drugs they brought in large quantities became one of the factors for rampant circulation in Riau.

"For that, I ask the public not to be tempted to become a courier, because the threat of punishment is very heavy," said Nandang, on the sidelines of the case of the disclosure of 33 kilograms of meth in Riau.

Based on data released by the Riau Police Directorate of Drugs Investigation, there were 1,041 cases handled during the first eight months of this year. All of the cases ensnared as many as 1,465 suspects.

Riau Police Drugs Investigation Directorate became the ranks with the largest confiscated evidence reaching 90.76 kilograms of methamphetamine and 66,915 ecstasy pills and 4,600 happy five pills.

Bengkalis Resort Police ranked the second place with the largest disclosure of evidence reaching 64.42 kilograms of methamphetamine and 47,000 ecstasy pills.

Pekanbaru City Police stood at the third place with total evidence of meth weighing 37.89 kilograms and 7,223 ecstasy pills and 3,395 happy five pills.

Subsequently, Dumai Resort Police ranked the fourth with evidence of meth weighing 26,025 kilograms and 1,633 ecstasy pills, as quoted from Antara.
