Village Minister Says He Would Campaign as Legislative Candidate outside Working Hours

Village Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo

JAKARTA, NNC - Minister of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Eko Putro Sandjojo said he would campaign outside working hours only when participating in the contestation of candidates for members of the House of Representatives in the 2019 legislative election.

"I can instruct my team outside the ministry, the party team to campaign, right, there are DPW [area executive board] of political parties, provincial, regency and city legislative candidates to be tasked with campaigning, without me," said Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo in Bengkulu, Saturday (8/4/2018).

Even if he has to campaign directly, Eko said he would try his best to choose the time outside his working hours as a minister. "Like on weekends, if needed to work during working hours, I will just take a leave of absence, but that is the last choice I will make," he said as quoted by Antara.

Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo at the 2019 democracy fiesta is participating running for one of the candidates for the Regional Representative Council (DPD) member through PKB and choosing the electoral district of Bengkulu Province.

The Minister of Village will later compete with the four incumbent House members, namely Elva Hartati from PDI Perjuangan, Anarulita Muchtar from Nasdem, Dwi Coryati from PAN, and Susi Marleny Bachsin from Gerindra.

In addition, there are also other strong candidates such as former Chairman of the DPD Muhammad Saleh through Golkar, PAN General Treasurer Benny Suharto who also run for the 2019 legislative race.

Another strong rival is Leni Haryanti John Latief, the mother of DPD member Riri Damayanti John K Latief. In 2014, Leni won a high enough vote, but lost the total votes of political parties at that time. This time Leni moved political parties from PKB to Nasdem.
