Twelve MRT Jakarta Trains Arrive at Tanjung Priok Port from Japan

JakaRTA, NNC - Two train sets (twelve trains) of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Wednesday (4/4/2018), after being sent from Toyohashi Port in Japan.

Tubagus Hikmatullah, Corporate Secretary Division Head of MRT Jakarta, said that the process of moving trains from cargo ship will be done on Thursday (4/5) tomorrow, followed by transporting by using the multi-axle trailers to Lebak Bulus Depot.

Delivery process will take place until April 8, 2018 from 10 pm to 5 am to reduce the impact of traffic density.

In order to ensure the delivery process went smoothly, PT MRT Jakarta has conducted a series of trial and delivery simulations since February 2018. "The MRT Jakarta train is a new train made by Nippon Sharyo railway company, Japan," Tubagus said in a press release on Wednesday (4/4).

The next fourteen train sets will begin shipping by the end of June and it is targeted at the end of October all sixteen sets of MRT Jakarta train sets will arrive in Jakarta and be prepared to follow a series of trial run processes.

"In phase 1, PT MRT Jakarta prepares sixteen train sets in which fourteen sets will be operated and two sets will be put on hold as reserves. The MRT Jakarta will operate from 5 am to 0 am with five minute interval on rush hour," he explained.

According to Tubagus, the presence of MRT Jakarta is a new breakthrough for public transportation in this city. Not only will it improve mobility, MRT Jakarta will also provide additional benefits, such as air quality improvements and one of solutions to cope with congestion, with the lifestyle changes of Jabodetabek people switching from the use of private vehicles to public transportation.
