Toxic Gas Killed 5 Boat Technicians at Jakarta Bay

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Five boat technician drowned to their deaths during lifting of MV Sweet Istanbu vessel, Friday (9/29/2017) around 10.45 Westerin Indonesia Time (WIB). 

The vessel sank outide the east dam of Tanjung Priok Port due to damage on March 2017.

The deaths of the five technicians were revealed by Tanjung Priok Port Caption Sudiono when contacted on Sunday (10/1/2017) night. He said the five technicians were installing a pump to the hollowed-out vessel.

At that time there was a gas pump leak which was then inhaled by the technicians. One technician fell to the water and never came to the surface. One of his colleagues dived to search for him but he also did not return. Similar events were also experienced by the three other technicians.

The evacuation of victims who were trapped inside the MV Sweet Istanbu was done twice by the Seach And Rescue (SAR) team of the Tanjung Priok Port Syahbandat office on Friday (29/9).

"The bodies of victims were directly taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for autopsy," explained Sudiono.

The victims were residents of Cilincing, North Jakarta, namely, Saidi, Physical (45), Afendi (40), Harnoko (26), and Moh Toyin (48).
