President Stresses Importance of Literacy, Praises National Library’s Facility for the Disabled

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM –  President Joko Widodo inaugurated the National Library service facility building in Jakarta on Thursday (9/14/2017) and the first service he tried was the library’s touchscreen feature which offer options of e-journals, e-books, library data from all over Indonesia, and the website of National Library.

 After the inauguration, the President accompanied by Minister of National Education Muhadjir Effendi, Secretary Cabinet Pramono Anung, Minister of Technology Research and Higher Education M. Nasir, the National Library Director Muh. Syarif Bando, Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and Indonesia’s Literacy Ambassador Najwa Shihab along with other literacy activists went around the building to experience all the facilities and services.

At membership registration located on the second floor, the President made his own library card.  

"My library card was done in under one minute, and there was no membership fee. Everything is free and fast,” President said.

The President continued to the seventh floor where he spent time in library rooms designated specifically for children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

To the media, the President praised the National Library Building. "The building is very representative, very good," said the President.
