BANYUWANGI, NNC - Banyuwangi became one of the tourist destinations with increasing growth of tourist numbers, especially after the opening of Banyuwangi Airport commercially.
Not only its natural beauty that became a paradise for snorkeling or diving fans, various festivals are also held to attract tourists. By involving 100 Banyuwangi artists filling up 11 stages with 10 different themes, a 2.5km cultural carnival route took place on Sunday, July 29.
To support the activities of tourists, Banyuwangi Airport has been improved. Its the airport with the highest growth rate of 133.5%, followed by Silangit Airport (39.5%), Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport Tanjung Pinang (23.8%), Minangkabau International Airport Padang (20.4%) and Airport Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Palembang (18.5%).
Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas says Banyuwangi dubbed "The Sunrise of Java" has three criterias as a prerequisite to become a main destination, including world tourism attraction, complete supporting facilities, and easy accessibility.
"We are very proud as development with such a cultural approach quickly raises the welfare of the community. The community's current per capita income is IDR45 million per year. For BEC, its theme changes every year presenting the community's local wisdom. BEC does not use event organizer, but a pure work of the people of Banyuwangi," Abdullah Azwar Anas said in a press release on Monday, July 30.
The number of tourist arrivals in Banyuwangi has increased significantly. In the first-half of 2018, the number of tourists rose a significant 175,878 people from the same period last year to a total of 2,589,587 people.
