Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Panjaitan inaugurates Borobudur Tourism Authority Board.

PRAMBANAN, NETRALNEWS.COM - The government approved Presidential Regulation No. 46/2012 on the establishment of Borobudur Tourism Development Authority Board (BOP) on April 11, 2017. The Presidential Regulation mandates the establishment of Borobudur BOP no later than three months after the Presidential Regulation is ratified.

Located at the Trimurti Building of Prambanan Temple Complex, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan together with Tourism Minister Arief Yahya inaugurated the Tourism Authority Board of Borobudur, Wednesday (7/19/2017).

Deputy of Infrastructure Coordination at Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs Ridwan Djamaluddin asserted after the inauguration of BOP, there is still the administrative process for BOP head election.

"Currently the selection committee is still being processed by the Ministry of Tourism".

The Coordinating Ministry for the Maritime Affairs coordinates four ministries, including the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Fisheries, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Tourism.

The management of destinations such as Borobudur in Magelang Regency, Central Java is often criticized. Tourism development is criticized for not involving local people. "One Destination One Management serves to minimize the potential for conflict, so that the arrangement of tourism can be sustainable, provide benefits for the surrounding population while maintaining its sustainability."

Borobudur BOP will manage the tourism area covering three National Tourism Destinations covering Solo-Sangiran and surrounding areas, Semarang-Karimunjawa and surrounding areas, Borobudur-Yogyakarta and surrounding areas.

After the inauguration of Borobudur BOP, the government targets tourism potentials in the management of BOP to be maximized as well as maintained sustainable.

"The tasks of BOP are among others to coordinate the management of tourism with pre-existing management institutions and community engagement," he concluded. (*)
