Coordinating Minister Luhut: Investments in Lake Toba Will be in Form of B2B

Coordinating Minister Luhut led Coordination Meeting of Lake Toba Management Board.

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Coordinating Minister for the Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said any investment that will be done in the Lake Toba National Tourism Strategic Area will not be borne by the government but from cooperation between private institutions or with SOEs.

"For investors, the form must be B2B [business to business]," said Coordinating Minister Luhut before the entrepreneurs, state-owned enterprises, government institutions and regional leaders around Lake Toba at the Coordinating Meeting of the Authority Body, the Management Board of Lake Toba National Tourism Strategic Area (BPOPDT), in Prapat, Monday (7/10/2017).

In a meeting led by Minister Luhut who acted as Chairman of the Steering Committee of BPOPDT, various problems around the development of the tourist area and the solution were discussed. Ari Prasetyo, as the President Director of BPOPDT reported the development of Silangit Airport development which is planned to receive international route flight.

"The international flight needs to be opened because of the increasing number of tourists. Yesterday, I got a report the tourists coming to Samosir Island were more than 260 thousand people, but the infrastructure has not been completely built yet," said Coordinating Minister Luhut.

For this reason, Coordinating Minister Luhut urged all involved to cooperate. The meeting also disclosed a plan to build the extension of the runway of Silangit Airport, coordination with the customs authorities and the airport quarantine organizers (Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as well as Ministry of Health) and contractors to adjust the finalization of airport design.

The development of integrated transportation is also a topic in this coordination meeting, the state-owned public transportation provider Damri will operate the Silangit Airport-Siantar route, Indonesian Railways also plans to open a new route of Lubuk Pakam-Siantar to add the existing route of Medan-Siantar.
