JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Agriculture has officially carried out the first trial of B100 Biodiesel product at the Head Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Jakarta, on Thursday (04/18/2019). Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman is optimistic that B100 will become a superior local product capable of strengthening national energy security.
"B100 is our future energy. This is a big opportunity because our CPO production is 41.6 million tons. In the period 2014 - 2018, CPO production increased by 29.5 percent annually. You can imagine how many trillion you could save. In the future we will no longer depend on imported BBM, "Amran explained.
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that is produced from renewable natural ingredients such as vegetable and animal oils. Because it has the same physical properties as diesel oil, biodiesel can be used as a substitute fuel for diesel-engined vehicles. So far, biodiesel is still mixed with petroleum fuels with a certain proportion. But with the technology of developing B100, biodiesel contains 100 percent natural ingredients, without being mixed with BBM.
B100 products are one of the innovations produced by the Ministry of Agriculture through the Agricultural Research and Development Agency (Balitbangtan). Balitbangtan researchers developed a multifunctional biodiesel reactor that has reached the 7th generation. This machine can process 1,600 liters of raw material every day.
"Indonesia's dream of creating B100 biodiesel from CPO was successfully realized. The fuel originating from 100 percent CPO with 87 percent yield is still being developed. All there is no mixture, "Amran explained.
Before successfully developing B100, Indonesia has succeeded in developing B20 towards B30. During the period 2014 - 2018, the development of B20 in Indonesia was quite rapid. In 2018 B20 biodiesel production reached 6.01 million kiloliters, an increase of 82.12% compared to 2014 of 3.30 million kiloliters. Even so, Amran said that Indonesia still imports 10.89 million kiloliters of diesel fuel. "Looking at this, the development of B100 is a necessity," he said.
Development of B100 biodiesel is expected to have many positive impacts. Among other things, B100 has been tested more efficiently. "The comparison for one liter B100 can travel up to 13.4 kilometers while one liter of diesel can only be nine kilometers. This has proven to be efficient, "explained Amran.
Another positive impact, B100 is environmentally friendly energy. For example, carbonmonoxide (CO) B100 biodiesel is 48% lower than diesel.
The development of B100 is also expected to have a positive effect on the welfare of oil palm farmers. Indonesian palm oil is still one of the biggest foreign exchange contributors. CPO exports are estimated at 34 million tons. But if you only export in raw form, the selling price is lower than the form of derivative products.
"In this situation, it is hoped that the downstreaming step through increasing the absorption of biodiesel can become our foundation to create palm oil downstream with other end products," he said.
