Communications Minister Proud of Indonesian Startup Becoming a Decacorn

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara says he is proud of the achievements of the startup companies in Indonesia, in which one of the startups has reached decacorn status this year.

"Thank God and I feel we are proud. Why? Because it is not only a milestone for the nation, but also for the region," he said.

CB Insights in the list of The Global Unicorn Club includes the name Gojek in the 19th place in the world startups that have reached the decacorn status. Gojek, as quoted from the CB Insights website, has a valuation of US $10 billion.

Gojek currently operates not only in Indonesia, but also in a number of Southeast Asian countries including Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.

The presence of ride hailing application in Southeast Asia, according to Rudiantara, is a testament to the trust of the public and domestic and foreign investors.

"Investors always invest in a new business model that is not a brick and mortar business, is not an ordinary business. This shows investor confidence in Indonesia," he said.

The presence of startups in Indonesia with unicorn and decacorn status would not disturb small companies, as the startups are developed in one ecosystem.

As reported by Antara, Wednesday (10/4/2019), Communication and Information Technology is currently a regulator and facilitator for startups, one of which is by cutting licensing to establish startup companies to continue to grow.
