Darmin Nasution Leads Delegation to Brussels to Discuss Palm Oil Issues (poskota)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS COM - Indonesia Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution is leading the Indonesian Delegation (DELRI) on an official visit to Brussels, Belgium on April 8 to 9, 2019 in the framework of a joint mission with the palm oil producing countries incorporated in the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC).

This is Indonesia's response to the European Union (EU) discriminatory policies that classify oil palm products as unsustainable and high-risk biofuel commodities/Indirect Land Use Change (ILUC). And now it has been adopted in the derivative regulation (Delegated Act) of the Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) policy.

Darmin said, the joint mission's main purpose was to convey disappointment and fight the Delegated Act which had been adopted by the European Commission on March 13, 2019. "During the two days of the visit, the Delegates will have a meeting with the Commission, Parliament and Council of Europe and various stakeholders involved in the supply chain of the oil palm industry in the EU market," said Coordinating Minister Darmin in Brussels on Tuesday (9/4/2019).

Previously, the Government had issued 10 (ten) stance points on EU discriminatory steps towards oil palm commodities. Not only that, together with the related Ministries / Institutions (K / L), the government has also collaborated with the business community from the EU through a meeting with the International Chamber of Commerce & European Union MNCs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 20, 2019.

In the meeting, Darmin emphasized the good relations between Indonesia and the EU that had been established for a long time, especially in the economic field, which should have been able to be nurtured properly. DELRI members who participated in the tour included the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Staff Peter F. Gontha, Deputy of Food and Agriculture Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Musdhalifah Mahmud.

Plus Deputy Coordinating Minister for International Economic Cooperation, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Rizal Affandi Lukman, Director of Trade Security at the Ministry of Trade Pradnyawati, and representatives of the national oil palm association. The Malaysian delegation was led by Secretary General of the Ministry of Main Industry (MPI) Malaysia Dato 'Dr. Tan Yew Chong, while Colombia's Ambassador in Brussels Felipe Garcia Echeverri led the Colombian delegation.
