LABUAN BAJO,  NETRALNEWS.COM - The digital-based tourism industry is encouraged to continue to develop through the Wonderful Startup Academy Batch II 2019 Program as an effort to incubate and grow new entrepreneurs in Indonesia.

Indonesian Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya has encouraged the formation of digital companies engaged in tourism as a leading sector.

"I want to encourage the development of digital companies engaged in tourism as a leading sector," Arief Yahya said in the Wonderful Startup Academy batch II incubation program which is the result of cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), as well as the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) Indonesia.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Tourism during the 'Demo Day' on a phinisi boat in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on Monday (03/25/2019) afternoon.

The event also closed the incubation program for the 10 best startups in the field of tourism who had been following incubation for three months from January to March 2019.

Arief Yahya explained that WSA 2019 was only an incubator not a creative center whose purpose was to develop a number of potential startups. The start-up will be guided until they have successfully received funding. One way is to use the network of the Ministry of Tourism and other implementers.

"I will be happy to accompany startups in the tourism sector who want to get funding," he said.

On this occasion, Menpar also announced the Top 3 Startup final event of the WSA Batch II incubation program. The three winners were Bobobox as the first winner, School Tourism as the runner up, and Mountable as the third winner. These three startups managed to surpass 309 participants from various regions in Indonesia.

He also hopes that there will be many startups in the tourism sector who can become unicorns, namely start-up companies with a valuation of up to US $ 1 billion.

"I would be very happy if one or all three of the top startups from WSA can become unicorns," Arief  Yahya said to the participants of WSA batch II 2019.
