Rupiah Weakens 23 Points to IDR 14,163 per US Dollar on Friday (siberklik)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The exchange rate (exchange rate) of the rupiah transacted between banks in Jakarta on Friday (3/22/2019) afternoon fell 23 points to Rp14,163 per US dollar from the previous Rp14,140 per US dollar.

PT Garuda Futures President Director Ibrahim Assuaibi in Jakarta, said, was one of the negative sentiments for the rupiah namely the European Union which agreed to grant an extension until May 22, 2019 if the Brexit proposal was approved by the British parliament next week. If there is no agreement from parliament next week, the extension is only valid until 12 April 2019.

"So if there is no blessing from parliament next week, the UK has a month to prepare to face a nightmare that is out of the European Union without any compensation or no Brexit Deal," Ibrahim said.

In addition, another external sentiment is related to a trade war where negotiators from the US and China are scheduled to meet in Beijing to hold new talks next week.

As per the information that US negotiators do not target rapid achievement of trade agreements. Instead, the aim is to reach an agreement during a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese rival Xi Jinping in Mar-a-Lago sometime before the end of April 2019.

Domestic prices of light sweet crude rose to 59.76 dollars per barrel at 3:35 p.m. WIB, which put pressure on the rupiah.

"The development of world crude oil prices has become a negative sentiment today for the rupiah," Ibrahim said.

The exchange rate (exchange rate) of the rupiah opened at Rp14,136 in the morning. Throughout the day, the rupiah moved in the range of Rp.14,136 per US dollar to Rp.14,163 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's middle exchange rate on Friday showed that the rupiah weakened to Rp14,157 per US dollar compared to the previous day at Rp14,102 per US dollar
