JAKARTA, NNC - Four decades have passed since Mitsubishi released a pickup truck that began with the Mitsubishi Forte or L200 in 1978.
In the launch on Friday (11/9), in Jakarta, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) Osamu Masuko revealed that up to now there are 4.7 million pickup trucks produced and marketed to 150 countries around the world, Antara reported, Sunday (11/11/2018).
Pick-up generation alternates. Mitsubishi overhauled and gave new features, giving passengers choices through Strada in the second generation in the 1980s and 1990s until the new Triton was released this month.
The latest Triton release is produced at the assembly center of Laem Chabang in Thailand. Triton is one product whose success is important for the company's growth.
One of the biggest markets of Mitsubishi pickup trucks is Indonesia, precisely in third place after Thailand and Australia.
"[Indonesia] is very important. The market share of Mitsubishi Indonesia pickup is more than 60 percent," said Senior Vice President Guillaume Cartier.
Its market share, as expressed by PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), in Indonesia this year did dominate, precisely 64.2 percent. Triton sales per month in Indonesia are in the range of 1,000 units.
It is believed if successful in the Indonesian market, Triton will also survive in other markets.
This is inseparable from the use of pickup trucks in extreme conditions in the country that have many mining areas.
Usually Mitsubishi pickup trucks are used by consumers of fleet for mining (34 percent), plantations (34 percent) or the oil and gas sector (14 percent) whose terrain is not always as smooth as roads in urban areas. Success in the Indonesian market, Cartier continued, will be a real form of technology demonstration that is predicted to be strong and reliable for many needs.
Head of Sales and Marketing of MMKSI Imam Choeru Cahya said Triton in Indonesia could reach 1,000 units a month.
The new Triton will be sold in Thailand starting November 17, only being introduced sequentially in the markets of Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America, which will eventually be sold to around 150 countries worldwide.
In Indonesia, consumers can only experience the New Triton in 2019.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation plans to sell around 180,000 units of this new model in this fiscal year.
Is there a possibility that Triton will be produced in Indonesia which is now the place to make MPV Xpander? Mitsubishi has indeed set certain countries to produce different car variants.
Thailand is the place to assemble pickup cars, while Indonesia is the place to make MPVs like Xpander. Even though they have to import pickup trucks from the White Elephant Country, Thailand also relies on Indonesia to import Xpander.
"For MPV we export to Thailand as well as the Philippines, Vietnam, there are also plans to Bolivia. It will definitely develop again," Imam said.
The new Triton offers new features called increasing performance, functionality, durability, security to the comfort of the user.
With a new design that makes it look manlier, this Mitsubishi pickup offers many updates to attract users who use it not only for commercial needs, but also personal ones.
