JAKARTA, NNC - The IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting 2018 has officially ended on Monday (10/15/2018). Broadly speaking, the event went very perfectly. Even Indonesia has raised high standards because of its success in organizing the event.
This was reflected in the press conference of the closing ceremony at the Bali International Convention Center which was attended by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo.
According to Coordinating Minister Luhut, all IMF-WB Annual Meeting events went very well. There were no significant obstacles. "We have so far received good comments from the participants and parties present here. We did not find any obstacles that interfered with the main events, parallel events, and host events," he said.
The Coordinating Minister who is also the national committee chairman of the meeting also added that this success was a concrete proof of the strong commitment of all stakeholders even before implementation Indonesia was faced with a series of major natural disasters in several regions in Indonesia which were also handled well.
"This success demonstrates the ability of the Indonesian government under the leadership of President Jokowi. Indonesia is able to hold events simultaneously in the midst of disaster handling," he said.
With the end of the annual meeting, Coordinating Minister Luhut said Indonesia would continue to be remembered by the world. The reason is this is the biggest IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting event in history. Reportedly the number of delegates and participants attending the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting reached 36,669 people.
"I think so far they have been very happy. And I am also happy that Mr. Jim and Mrs. Lagarde have experienced having to take a taxi in Indonesia during their stay here. Because the Mercedes Benz E200 used was a rented taxi and we changed its appearance a little so the car looks more expensive," said Luhut.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of IMF Christine Lagarde said that Indonesia had successfully held the annual meeting event very well and made the delegates comfortable. According to him, the three-year preparation made by the Indonesian people after being chosen as the host of the 2015 event, nothing was in vain.
World Bank President Kim Yong Jim expressed his pride because Indonesia was able to accommodate the international scale event very well while taking care of the areas affected by natural disasters in Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara very well and quickly.
"Thank you very much. What we have learned here is that Indonesians have strong resilience and enthusiasm. We from World Bank are happy to find this kind of desire, so we respond with USD1 billion as a supplement for rehabilitation and reconstruction to maintain resilience in Sulawesi and Lombok," Jim said.
