TOKYO, NNC -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday (5/18/2018), as the weakening yen against the US dollar brightened up market sentiment and helped lift export stocks.

At 9:15 am local time, the Nikkei 225 index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) added 51.25 points or 0.22 percent from its closing level Thursday (5/17), to trade at 22,889.62 points.

Meanwhile, the broader Topix index of all first-section stocks in the Tokyo market rose 1.70 points, or 0.09 percent, to trade at 1,810.07 points.

Stocks related to oil and coal products, mining and rubber products posted the most in the opening minutes of trading, Antara reported.
