JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM, - After going through a series of discussion process, public reviews and socialization, Ministry of Transportation on October 24, 2017 issued the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 108 Year 2017 on the Implementation of People Transportation With Public Vehicles Not in Particular Routes.
The regulation effective from November 1, 2017 becomes the legal umbrella for ride-hailing service provider, or locally known as online taxis.
"This Regulation of the Minister of Transportation is the revision to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. 26/2017 on the Implementation of People Transportation with Public Motorized Vehicles Not in Certain Routes previously annulled by the Constitutional Court," said Secretary General of Transportation Minister Sugihardjo in a press release on Tuesday (10/31/2017).
Before this regulation was established, he asserted that the Ministry of Transportation has conducted public dialogue in several cities in Indonesia, such as in Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan and Makassar to hear the immediate response of the people in the regions related to the rules of online taxis.
"Based on input from various parties in various cities, all parties expect to be re-arranged, because if not regulated then as of November 1 there will be a legal vacuum," he said.
He added there are still some parties who are not satisfied related to the Minister of Transportation Regulation governing this online transport.
Nevertheless, the ministry strives to stand in the middle trying to accommodate all parties, prioritizing the interests of the wider community, national interests and also the interests of service users in terms of safety, consumer protection, equality and business opportunities.
