JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has been named the 7th most connected airport in the world, or 2nd in the Asia Pacific region based on the report of the 2017 Megahubs International Index of the British institution, OAG.
"Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia with the number of passenger movement reaching 60 million passengers per year and continues to increase.To accommodate the growing demand for flights from various countries in the future, Angkasa Pura II is now making developments either on the air side or land side, "said President Director of Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin in a release on Sunday (8/10/2017).
In the 2017 Megahub International Index report, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport got the value of connectivity index of 256, or just one point adrift of Changi International Airport, Singapore, which earned 257 points.
The index value illustrates that at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, there are about 35,000 international connectivity possibilities within one day.
As for determining the value of the index, OAG calculates the total possible airport connectivity for incoming and departing flights within a six-hour window period.
Meanwhile the criteria for determining connectivity include international flights to or from the airport, and international flights including domestic to international, international to domestic, as well as international to international.
"At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport there is also the second busiest international route in the world, Jakarta-Singapore with passengers reaching 322,488 passengers per month, indicating that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is able to maintain operational stability even better with new routes which opened both domestic and international flights, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.
According to him, the operational stability at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is supported by three things namely the readiness of airport infrastructure on the air side and the land side including the passenger terminal.
Then, he continued, competent human resources (HR), and operational efficiency and effectiveness are increasing continuously in line with the implementation of the program "smart airport".
Regarding infrastructure, AP II is currently developing massively covering three sectors: revitalization of Terminals 1 and 2, construction of Terminals 3 and 4, as well as an increase in runway capacity 1 and 2, and the construction of runway 3.
