JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan proposed to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo for oil-fueled cars no longer be produced by 2040.

Moreover, according to the former Minister of Transportation, as the regulator, electric cars will be a mainstay for environmentally friendly automotive, if there is no strong desire from the government itself, in fact until the next 30 years, electric cars will not be the majority.

"The electric cars in 30 years will not be the majority unless the incentives are big. This is in my opinion," he said in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/26/2017).

One of them, continued Jonan, is by negating the sale of fossil-fueled cars. He has also proposed to President Jokowi to make this happen.

Unfortunately, until now there has been no agreement on the proposal.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and stakeholders proposed that by 2040 no more sales of fossil-fueled cars; this has not been approved. So, if it is made like that, perhaps the challenge will be big but it will not be. So until 2039 the car is still running. Maybe the population will be until 2050-2060," he said.
