LOS ANGELES, NETRALNEWS.COM - Earvin "Magic" Johnson has announced is resignation as operational president of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball club on Wednesday morning Indonesian western time, shortly before his team underwent the final NBA regular season match at Staples Center, California, United States.

Johnson claimed he had not delivered his decision to the Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (04/10/2019).

Johnson claimed his decision to resign was due to him not enjoying the job. "I am happier when I am not a president," said the Lakers living legend.

Ironically, Johnson's decision to resign from his post only added to his bad record with the LA Lakers.

A few days earlier, ESPN reported that Johnson and the Lakers head coach Luke Walton had not communicated in recent weeks.

Walton's future was also at the forefront because he failed to deliver the Lakers to reach the playoffs this season despite being reinforced by superstar James LeBron.

Ahead of the final game hosting the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lakers have a record of 37 wins and 44 defeats (37-44).

Thus, in Walton's three successive seasons coaching the Lakers, he always failed to record a winning percentage above 50 percent. Walton's overall record at the Lakers was 98-147.

As reported by Antara, Walton often received support from the owners of the Lakers, but later Buss admitted he would let Johnson and General Manager Rob Pelinka make a decision about the head coach.
