LONDON, NNC - Chelsea has agreed to sell Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to Champions League winner, Real Madrid, the Premier League club said on Wednesday (8/8/2018).
Real will pay US$40.7 million to recruit Courtois, Spanish media reported.
"Tonight we finalized an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Thibaut Courtois. As part of this agreement, Mateo Kovacic will join Chelsea as a one-season loan player," Chelsea said via Twitter.
Courtois, 26, has played 154 times for Chelsea since joining Stamford Bridge in 2011. He was loaned to Atletico Madrid for three years in 2011-2014.
British media have reported that Courtois, who has played for the Belgian national team, has not been seen training with Chelsea in the past two days as a way to force his move from the club.
Chelsea has set up Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga as a substitute for Courtois, as reported by Antara.
