Reaching Final, French Team Unwilling to Repeat Bad Memory in 2016

French national team captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

SAINT PETERSBURG, NNC – French national team has reached the final round of the 2018 World Cup. Now, the France aims not to repeat their bad memory when appearing in the final of Euro 2006.

French national team ensured themselves qualified for the final round of the 2018 World Cup after a 1-0 win over Belgium in the semifinals on Tuesday (7/10/2018). The only goal of the game in this match was scored by defender Samuel Umtiti through a header via corner kick from Antoine Griezmann in the 51st minute.

The result made France always qualifies for the final in the last two major tournaments. Previously, they also reached the final of the 2016 European Cup when becoming the host.

However, France failed to win the European Cup in 2016 after Portugal defeated them in the final. The team made by Didier Deschamps is expecting better luck in Russia.

"It was very difficult to accept what happened two years ago, and we do not want that to happen again. We want to finish this tournament in the best possible way," French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris told FIFA

“This is just one more step, albeit a very important one. We played a very good match in terms of our organization. We were competitive in all departments,” said Lloris.

French national team is now just waiting for the opponent in the final to be held at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Sunday (7/15). They will face Croatia or England.
