MUGELO, NNC – The future of Jorge Lorenzo at Ducati is on the edge following a bad performance with the Italian manufacturer. Seeing this, his teammate, Andrea Dovizioso offers advise.
Dovi suggested the Spanish rider to try to adapt better.
Lorenzo, who won three MotoGP world titles at Yamaha, seems to be failing on the Ducati-made Desmosedici motor. Surprisingly, he has never been able to conquer his bike since he first joined the team until now. Evidently, he has not won a race and only had three podiums since 2017.
According to Dovi, the problem is not on the Desmosedici motor but on Lorenzo’s racing style that does not match the character of the bike Therefore Dovi thinks his teammate should be more flexible and willing to change his style of racing in order to get better results.
"It is very difficult to be fast in MotoGP now because there are many aspects to consider," Dovi said as quoted by Autosport.
"I do not want to be too detailed, but Jorge is accustomed to driving one type of motorcycle and he has a very clear idea of how to ride and work. Such an approach does not work on Ducati,” he added.
"Jorge Lorenzo is still a great champion and is still so, but the result cannot always be achieved in the same way, but for every situation you have to try to be mentally open and adapt to get the most out of it," Dovi said.
Now the fate of Lorenzo and Dovi differs significantly. Lorenzo, who is entering the final year of his contract to date has yet to sign a new contract, while Dovi has received a significant salary increase in his new contract lasting until 2020.
