MANCHESTER, NNC – One of Manchester City club legends, Shaun Goater regrets the decision of Pep Guardiola who pulled off the team's flagship striker, Sergio Aguero.
Shaun Goater said Pep should not ignore Sergio Aguero because the Argentine national team player has extraordinary talent.
Aguero only played 24 minutes in the second leg of Champions League quarterfinals against Liverpool midweek last week. Whereas City was chasing a goal because they were left behind 0-3 on aggregate in the first leg.
But Guardiola finally deployed Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, and Raheem Sterling. The strategy failed as City lost 1-2.
"If I was Aguero I would have thought why was not I set as the starter?" Goater said as reported by Manchester Evening News.
"Maybe he accepted the fact that he was not let in the field since the start but he is the top scorer of the club," he added.
City’s goals in the game was created by Gabriel. While the visiting team responded through Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
"Aguero should have played in 30-35 minutes. Guardiola's attitude was very disrespectful," Goater said.
"Guardiola said he wanted to defend him but we will see how things will be in the summer," he added.
Aguero has joined City since 2011. He has scored 199 goals from 292 matches.
"Of course I want him to survive, but if not then City should look for other classy striker," Goater said.
