CALIFORNIA, NNC - Serena Williams finally stalled in the third round of the Indian Wells tournament after she was defeated by her sister, Venus Williams, Tuesday (3/13/2018)
Serena had just return to competitive tennis after 14 months of absence from having a daughter. Venus won in straight sets 3-6, 4-6.
In the fourth round, Venus will face Latvia's 21st player, Anastasija Sevastova.
In a match at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, California, USA, Serena played poorly in the first set. Not surprisingly, Venus only needs to break Serena's serve once to clinch victory. But Venus worked hard on the second set.
Serena was leading with 3-0 and immediately got a match point in the position 5-2, as Venus failed to maintain her performance. She even lost service so that Serena managed to get closer by grabbing two games. In the end, Venus was only able to lock her victory in the tenth game.
"She played very well and seeing this match at the start of her comeback was really a nice treat for everyone," Venus said after the match.
"I always knew that the game was not finished until it was over, she got up and I had a chance to finish her off but it did not happen, I'm lucky I'm playing more games than she is now."
