MARANELLO, NNC – Ferrari is ready to compete with Mercedes in 2018 F1 season by relying on its new car, the new SF71H which was launched yesterday, Thursday (2/22/2018) at their headquarters, Maranello.
Two Ferrari riders, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen attended the launch event. Both are presenting their new cars in front of the media. The most striking difference of the SF71H with its predecessor, the SF70H, is the more dominant red color of the car. Ferrari also painted Halo in front of the cockpit in red.
As for technical details, there is a change in the chassis of the car. SF71H now has a longer wheelbase. The SF71H sidepod design is now more aggressive and fitted with a more up-to-date cooling and aerodynamic system.
"This is an evolution from last year's car that has become a good project, we are trying to maintain the strength, aggressiveness of some designs, and work well on low-speed circuits," said Ferria Technical Director, Mattia Binotto, as quoted by the BBC.
"But, we also have to work on aerodynamic development to make it tough on high-speed circuits, also on reliability," Binotto said.
Last season with SF70H, Ferrari managed to grab the five main podium through Vettel. The German rider also managed to seize the runner-up position in the standings of the rider under Lewis Hamilton. This season, Ferrari hopes SF71H will provide more fierce resistance to Mercedes. They are aiming to be world champions.
Vettel and Raikkonen have the opportunity to test the SF71H in the first pre-season test to be held in Barcelona on February 26-March 1. "We can not wait to get down to the track to see how the car works, I think that's the answer we all want to get, so we start there," Vettel finished.
